Plant Uses
1. The chief medicinal use is as an agent to stop bleeding.
2. The leaves and roots are grounded up and mixed with native spices as a remedy for dysentery and similarly a decoction of the same parts are used alone with guinea grains to arrest threatened abortion.
3. In general, an infusion of the leaves is used for fever accompanied by aches, the effect being to cause sweating and diarrhea.
4. Externally the fresh leaves, crushed or pounded and boiled, are applied for lumbago and bruises, generally as a lotion. (Ogbochukwu, 2005).
